the amount of bac water you add decides how strong each dose is. put in what is in your vial and the dose you were prescribed, and this gives you both halves of the answer at once: how much bac water to add, and how many units to dial.

1 what is in the vial

the total amount of compound in the sealed vial, printed on its label. this is not your dose.

what this number is, and where to find it

a vial arrives as dry powder. the number on the label is how much compound is in the whole vial, all of it, before any water goes in. a vial marked 10 mg holds 10 mg whether the powder looks like a thick puck or a barely visible film on the glass. how it looks tells you nothing about how much is there.

this number never changes. it is fixed at the point the vial was filled. adding water does not add or remove compound, it only spreads the same amount through more liquid, which is the whole idea behind the next two questions.

the mistake worth avoiding. putting your dose here instead of the vial amount. your dose is a small slice of the vial and goes in step 2. if you put a dose here, every number that follows will be wrong in the same direction, and it will look plausible.

if the label reads in mcg rather than mg, divide by 1000 to get mg. 5000 mcg is 5 mg.

mg, mcg, and what counts as a dose

mg and mcg are the same measure at different scales. a milligram is a thousand micrograms. 1 mg is 1000 mcg, 0.5 mg is 500 mcg, 0.25 mg is 250 mcg. protocols are written in whichever unit keeps the number readable, so the same dose can appear as 0.25 mg in one place and 250 mcg in another. use the toggle rather than converting in your head.

this is one dose, not a week of them. if your guidance gives a weekly amount split across more than one administration, the number here is what you take on a single occasion, not the weekly total.

why this number decides everything downstream. the calculator works out what fraction of the vial one dose is, then how much liquid that fraction becomes once the water is in. change this number and both answers move.

the mistake worth avoiding. carrying a unit count over from a previous vial or from someone else. units only mean something alongside the mix they were calculated for. always start from the dose in mg or mcg, never from a remembered number of units.

3 the bac water

a pen dials in whole clicks, so mira only shows the water amounts where your dose lands exactly on a whole number of units. it also leans toward mixes with a round strength, like 5 or 10 mg per mL, because that is the number you write on the vial and the one you can check at a glance.

why the amount of water is a choice, not a rule

there is no single correct amount of bac water. the compound does not care. what the amount changes is how concentrated the liquid is, and therefore how many units on the dial add up to your dose.

more water, weaker per unit, more units to dial. the same dose is spread through more liquid, so you dial a bigger number to get the same amount of compound. less water, stronger per unit, fewer units. the dose is unchanged either way. only the arithmetic between it and the dial moves.

so the amount worth choosing is one that makes your dose land on a whole number of units. this is not a matter of taste. the dial moves in clicks and a click is one unit, so 7.3 units is not a setting that exists. anything that does not land whole has to be rounded, and rounding moves the dose.

a round strength is worth having too. a 10 mg vial in 1 mL is 10 mg per mL. the same vial in 3 mL is 3.33 mg per mL, on forever. both can dial a perfectly exact dose, so neither is wrong. but one of them you can write on the vial, repeat back to a clinician and check in your head, and the other you cannot. mira ranks the round ones first for that reason alone.

three practical limits. the cartridge in the box holds 3 mL, so nothing above that will fit. very small dial numbers are easy to misread, so mira leans away from mixes that land below a couple of units. and the number has to be whole, which is what rules most water amounts out.

whichever you pick, write it on the vial along with the date. the units you dial are only correct for the mix you actually made.
